The Allen Quilters' Guild was founded by Bev Carlsen-Landy in 1987. She felt the Allen area needed its own guild. After talking with a few "quilting buddies", the idea became a feasible reality. Sue Denton volunteered to help with phone calls and Shirley Martin gave her mailing list from The County Sew Place. The initial meeting was held in July. We scheduled our first real meeting for September. We invited the Presidents of the Dallas and Plano Guilds to come and talk to us about starting a guild. The guild was born! We wanted to be an independent, educational, community-oriented and, most of all, quilting group.

Currently the Allen Quilters' Guild has over 80 members. We meet the third (3rd.) Thursday of every month (except December) at the First Presbyterian Church, 605 S. Greenville Avenue, in Allen. Social time begins at 6:30 pm and the meeting begins at 7:00 pm. Each meeting consists of a short business meeting and an interesting program.

Show and Tell is one of the most exciting parts of the meeting. Members bring works in progress or completed quilts and "show and tell". The Guild Library is at every meeting for members to check out books.
