The May block of the month is the Ohio Star, a familiar block to most quilters.

Use a bright yellow (bold-not pastel) for the star. The background is an unbleached muslin - please do not use bleached or white to keep the stars uniform.

From the yellow, cut two 5 and 1/4" squares. Cut these in half diagonally twice. You will have eight quarter triangles. From the muslin, cut two 5 and 1/4 inch" and cut in half diagonally twice. From the muslin, cut four 4 and 1/2" squares. These go in the four corners.

Trim the piece given to you (contact BoM chairperson) to 4 and 1/2". This is your center square.

Join the yellow and muslin triangles by the short ends to form a larger triangle. Join the large triangles as shown in the diagram to form a square. This should measure 4 and 1/2", so make one, measure and adjust your seal allowances if necessary.

Assemble in three rows as shown to make the block which will measure 12 and1/2" unfinished.
